A reflection of today…its adversity…its weakness…its determinism…its courage…its hope… its patience…let us not be quick to give up or give in, for we never know what might be around the corner in our darkest hour.
Alas it came
With March’s darkened skies.
Then the symptoms of the sickness:
Fever
Fatigue
Cough
Pain
And the gasping for air and nauseous insides.
Then we heard the different voices of
First responders,
Journalists,
Law enforcement,
Even the President of the United States,
But we also heard the young and old cry.
From Johns Hopkins out to Stanford,
Men and machines,
Epidemiologists,
Researchers,
Rank and file in scrubs,
Worked round the clock…no guarantee to survive.
But they would not quit nor cower,
This masked army
Simple and wise.
We too, wore masks
And kept our distance
Six feet or two meters: front/back, side by side.
In this pestilence,
People wonder, “Why?”
But God is not caught napping.
He looks for caring, praying hearts worldwide.
You see, Parson Jack said,
“No man is an island, entire of itself;
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main;
If clod be washed by the sea,
Europe is the less,
As well as if a promontory were,
As well as if a manor of thy friends,
Or if thine own were;
Any man’s death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind;
And therefore never send to know for
Whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.” *
Love one another…however you can.
*John Donne (1572-1631)
